Ans. ABO blood group in humans is controlled by three alleles I0, IA and IB. The allelic pair is located on chromosome 9 and may occur in possible combinations I0IA, I0IB, IAIA, IBIB, IAIB, or I0I0. Allele I0 is recessive to both IA and IB.

# When present along with IA (genotype I0IA) or IB (genotype I0IB), the allele I0 is not expressed indicating that alleles IA and IB show complete dominance over it.

# When both alleles IA and IB are simultaneously inherited, both the antigen A and B are simultaneously expressed on RBC cell surface. So, alleles IA and IB exhibit co-dominance.

# The ABO system is an example of complete dominance inheritance (IA and IB is dominant over IO) as well as Co-dominance inheritance (alleles IA and IB are co-dominant to each other).
