The surface-area to volume ratio
principle ensures that cells do not grow large in their size.
It is disadvantageous for cells to be larger as it becomes
difficult for the duffusion of molecules within the cell. It also
become difficult to uptake nutrinets from out side and excretion of
waste materials.
The surface-area to volume gets
smaller as the cell becomes larger.
So, cells devide to increase their surface area to volume ratio
once they attain a threshold size.
