What is the advantages of using fluorescence rather than colorimetric methods for immunohistochemistry/immunocytochemistry and in situ hybridisation? (4)
Florescence serves as a better method than colorimetry for immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization because-
1. Offers studying multiple targets- More colors can be used for studying various proteins, molecules, receptors etc.
2. Colocalization of the target is better- When the targets are co-localized, florescence helps in better visualization. It helps them in identifying separately.
3. Dynamic range is higher- It helps to visualize rare targets as well as abundant targets simultaneously. They can be done on one slide.
4. Easy to perform and high sensitivity- It is less time consuming and can give results in fewer steps.
However, there are some limitations as well. It is susceptible to photo bleaching.
