n doing Biochemical oxygen demand (B.O.D) why is it important not to create bubbles?
The amount of oxygen consumed by the organisms to decompose the organic material in water is called the biochemical oxygen demand. It is very important to make sure that while performing the experiment of BOD, there must be no formation of air bubbles. If air bubbles are found, the sample must be collected again without air bubbles.
The reason is that any additional oxygen must not be trapped which can cause erroneous results. Additional oxygen trapped in the air bubbles can mislead the results and the exact amount of oxygen consumed will not be calculated. Therefore, it is quite important that no air bubbles must be present while collecting the sample for BOD experiment.
