Why do you have the development of zonation of species? How can lakes lose their zones? What effects might this loss of zones generate in the populations living in those lakes?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Zonation of species occurs due to changes in altitude/depth/ soil or water conditions(salinity, flow etc). Due to these parameters environment change occurs which can cater to specific species in specific zones. Donation occurs commonly in marine environment and places where there is difference in tidal waves.

Human infiltration /human poaching and killing/ human waste disposal can lead to loss of zonation ,say in case of India s lagoons( Chilka lake, where shrimp aqualculture has tremendously impacted the diversity of shrimps and affected the life of zonal species ).

The excessive human infiltration has led to changes in terms of soil bed that in turn affects the growth of many species. Biodiversity of that zone declines in such cases due to human encroachment, human predation and pollution .

Over 20 species of fish have descended from a single common ancestral species. Fossil evidence shows that each of these species evolved when fluctuating water levels totally isolated small sub-populations of the original ancestral species into several different small lakes and prevented interbreeding. Today they are all completely sympatric (all live in the same large lake.) We can identify them all accurately by their morphology. With this evidence, how best can we hypothesize what type of speciation was involved ?...

discusse, the males of some species have ornaments or characteristics that lower fitness in some ways, but are attractive to females.
