In bacterial expression of a eukaryotic gene.
What would happen if the 5’ cap of the RNA could not be added? Why?
I believe the correct answer to be:
The 5' cap on the RNA protects it from degrading in the cytoplasm because the enzyme RNAse is present in the cytoplasm that is capable of digesting the RNA molecules as a defense mechanisms against viruses. So, if the 5' cao is not present on the RNA and it is transported to the cytoplasm, it would be instantly degraded to its monomers.
