A major difference between eukaryotic and prokaryotic gene expression is that eukaryotic genes contain introns that are spliced out during RNA processing in the nucleus. What are the advantages and disadvantages to eukaryotes of the presence of introns in their genes? Name one advantage and one disadvantage.
Disadvantage-as the intron are made by complex biochemical and energetic process which require loss of a lot of energy and the energy and all the work is wasted at the time of splicing. they do not take part in coding for protein so even is transcription process seems insignificant
Advantage-as from evolutionary purpose the intron take part in producing multiple variant proteins can be produced from a single gene and as we know no process is stable or perfect so at the time of transcription and dna replication the site of introns are more prone to mutation so by splicing the body makes the cells to live longer and better by taking the mutation out of picture
