what is the only sensory cells that get hyperpolarized on stimulation rather than being depolarized?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer: The photoreceptors are the only cells that gets hyperpolarized on stimulation rather than depolarised. The photoreceptor cell is kind of neuroeoithelial cell located in the retina of the eye. photoreceptors in humans are of two types -

1. The rod cells ( helps in vision during low light)

2. The cone cells. (Less sensitive to light but allow colour perception)

Now we also need to understand wha hyperpolarization and depolarization is

Hyperpolarization: when at a particular point of a neuron the membrane potential becomes negative , it is termed as hyperpolarization.

Depolarization: In depolarization the membrane potential becomes less negative (more positive).
