what is the evidende that nociception is mediated by specific nociceptors rather than by strong stimulation of somatosensory receptors or non-nociceptive thermoreceptors?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans-Nociceptors are special receptors within skin, muscle, skeletal structures and viscera that detect potentially damaging stimuli. The evidence is experimental demonstration that nociception involves specialised neurons ,not simply greater discharge of neurons that respond to normal stimulus intensities. So if thermoreceptors gets a stimulus, it's not that they start to signal pain but nociceptors- responding to heat are different with much higher threshold that signals tissue damage.
