13. What effect would overexpression of the INK4 tumor suppressor gene have on tumor cells that express inactive Rb?
The inactive Rb protein is responsible for enormous growth in the cell. Because it can not suppress the E2F factor. The E2 F factor leads to G1 to S phase transistion. And there will be found more cycle.
Now ino our case, INK gene activates the Rb protein. The Rb protein remains bound to the E2F factor. The E2F factor is not able to activate the transition feom G1 to S phase. Hence there is found less cell cycle rate in individual. And the INK gene can be called as tumor suppressor gene. Hence overexpression of INK gene suppresses the cell cycle division.
