Prion diseases are a group of neuro-degenerative diseases caused by prions. Prion diseases are caused by misfolded forms of the prion protein, called as PrP. A prion is a type of protein, which triggers normal proteins in the brain to fold abnormally. These diseases affect a lot of different mammals in addition to humans. This diseases comprise several situations. It affects both humans and animals. The prion disease are Creutzfeldt-Jakobdisease (CJD), fatal familial insomnia (FFI), Gertsmann-Straussler-Scheinker syndrome (GSS), kuru and variably protease-sensitive prionopathy (VPSPr). The most common form of prion disease, which affects humans is Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD).
