Prions are small cell-surface glycoprotein, infectious protein particle that have the ability to misfold other proteins. Prions are unique as they don't have nucleic acid and resistant to proteases. They play critical role in causing neurodegenerative disorders known as prions disease.
Some examples of disease caused by prions are:- Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), Feline spongiform encephalopathy, etc.
