What action related to hemostasis does plasminogen do?
What action related to hemostasis does platelet derived growth factors do?
Help! I can't find the answer anywhere. Thank you!!
1.
Plasminogen, PLG is a freely circulating glycoprotein produced in the liver.
This protein is a precursor to plasmin, which lyses fibrin clots and plasma
proteins particularly during the process of blood clotting. Plasminogen is
converted to plasmin by an enzyme known as tissue plasminogen activator.
Thus the plasminogen acts in formation of hemostatic plug and also controls
the size of hemostatic clots.
2.
Platelets derived growth factors are present in platelets. These factors help in
the proliferation of smooth muscle cells present in blood vessel walls.
PDGF mediates migration of smooth muscle cells from media to intima which is a
major step in microvasculature in the process if hemostasis.
These factors also help in repairing damaged vascular cells.
