the 5 -3 exonuclease activity allows
1. The two functions of DNA polymerase 3 enzyme are -
A. Polymerization activity in direction 5' to 3'
B. Exonuclease activity in direction 3' to 5'
If the exonuclease activity is mutated but polymerization activity is intact, then the enzyme will be able to polymerize daughter DNA molecule normally but it won't be able to recognise any misincorporated base pair and therefore will not be able to repair it.
In the absence of exonuclease activity, mutated DNA will be passed on to the next generation and this can lead to the abnormal phenotype of the cell.
