Which statement is incorrect about the mechanism of the ATP synthase?

Select one:

a. The γ subunit of F1 moves as the c ring rotates.

b. β subunits of the F1 undergo conformational changes as the γ subunit rotates.

c. The αβ hexamer rotates as the γ subunit rotates.

d. The c ring rotates as protons move across the membrane.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Option C
γ subunit is a subunit of bacterial and chloroplast ATPase which is also called as F1 OSCP, this prevents the αβ hexamer from rotating. FO is a water insoluble protein with eight subunits and a transmembrane ring. It consists of three main subunits, a, b, and c. Six c subunits make up the rotor ring, and subunit b makes up a stalk connecting to F1 OSCP which further prevents the αβ hexamer from rotating.

The γ subunit of F1 moves as the c ring rotates. β subunits of the F1 undergo conformational changes as the γ subunit rotates. The c ring rotates as protons move across the membrane. All these events are included in the mechanisms of ATP synthase.
