There have been varied attempts as species conservation, some more successful than others. Zoos have played an important part as a source of new individuals to release to the wild. There are, however, several problems with this. Research the issues related to species conservation and present one problem that you find with the "zoo model" of species conservation. Then, discuss whether we should be focusing on habitat preservation or species preservation.

One important problem that we find with zoo model of species conservation is that it leads to biodiversity loss due to ex situ conservation method.The ex situ conservation deals with maintaining species under conditions different from their preferred natural habitats i.e off site under artificial conditions under human supervision and in captivity.We should focus more on habitat preservation because if habitat is preserved,we can succeed in species preservation as well.There are cases where loss /destruction of species habitat have paved the way for species to become endangered or extinct.If their natural habitat is preserved, species can be preserved as well.
