Symbiogenesis or endosymbiotic theory is an evolutionary theory of the origin of eukarotic cells from prokaryotic organism.It first introduced by Konstantin Mereschkowski.

The endosymbiotic hypothesis of mitochondria that designed as mitochondria are descended from specialized bacteria such as purple nonsulfur bacteria that somehow survived endocytosis by another species of prokaryote or some other cell types and become incorporated in to the cytoplasm.

mitochondria have many features that the were independent organism,including their own DNA,cell independent division,physical charecteristic similar to alpha proteobacteria.

some of the mitochondrial genes transferred to the nuclear genome over time.
