This is a descriptions of a metabolic disorders caused by enzyme deficiencies. Answer all parts of the question in essay style. Use biochemistry concepts and connections for answers. Don't contain irrelevant information in the answer.

Lactate dehydrogenase deficiency: Individuals with this disorder experience fatigue, cramps during exercise (exercise intolerance), and muscle pain. For quite a few people, high-intensity exercise and other strenuous activities leads to the breakdown of muscle tissue and causes kidney damage. The muscle isoform is primarily affected.

Answer these questions, completely:

  1. Why are the individuals affected's symptoms worse during periods of strenuous activity/exercise?

  2. One lab test to be diagnosed with this disorder is to test the alanine level in the blood after an individual exercises. Would you expect the alanine level to be lower or higher than in an unaffected individual who underwent the same test? Explain.

  3. Why is this disorder also able to be considered a glycogen storage disorder

  4. Assume someone with this disorder exercised for a long period of time (as long as possible) and didn't eat anything. At the end of exercising, how would their glucose level compare to that of an unaffected person who underwent a similar blood glucose level test? Explain.

Answer #1

Lactate dehydrogenase deficiency is a condition that affects how the body breakdown sugar to use as energy in cells primarily muscle cells. The condition become worse during period of intense excercise due to the onset of acidosis ie the ccumulation of lactic acid.

The alanine level will be high in affected individual compared to unaffected one.

Glycogen storage disease means that changes the way the body uses and stores glycogen, a form of sugar or glucose.Lactate dehydrogenase disease also a condition that affects the breakdown of sugar in the body and fail to use as energy.so LDH is called Glycogen storage disease.

The blood glucose level in an unaffected person will become low after continous excercise compared to the affected one because the glucose will be used by the body for energy. In the case of patient who cannot make use of glucose so the level remain the same.

Many metabolic disorders have similar symptoms because of the connections between pathways. The more severe form of lactate dehydrogenase deficiency and a deficiency in phosphofructokinase-1 in muscle can have similar symptoms of exercise intolerance, including fatigue and muscle pain during strenuous exercise. Individuals with phosphofructokinase-1 deficiency have more severe symptoms. Treatment for both individuals includes avoidance of high-intensity exercise. Along with other similar symptoms, both deficiencies can also result in reduced lactate levels during exercise. In order to distinguish between...

He appeared to be normal if at rest or performing light to moderate exercise. A fasting glucose test showed that Kyle was not hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic....
