  1. Is it possible to produce the same biomass per unit time at a higher and a lower trophic level? Clearly explain your answer.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

No, It is not possible to produce the same biomass per unit time at a higher and a lower trophic level. Because biomass decreases as trophic level Increases. Higher the trophic level lower the biomass. The main reason behind this is that the biomass pyramid is similar to the food pyramid that is used to demonstrate the trophic levels in an ecosystem. The first explanation for this Is that not all energy is fairly passed up the food chain. The combination of the reduced amount of energy available in food with the increased amount of energy needed to produce the food leads to less species at the top level that can survive, thereby reducing the biomass of that trophic level.

The use of biomass fuels, including scavenged wood and wood-chip waste, has been proposed as a way of reducing CO2 emissions, even though such fuels would produce a large amount of CO2 per unit of heat produced. Explain the rationale behind this idea.

This is an example of destructive interference. B.No. It is impossible for two waves heading in the same direction to interfere with each other. C.No. Waves cannot combine and will bend to pass around each other if they meet at a point. D. Yes. This is an example of constructive interference.
