The use of biomass fuels, including scavenged wood and wood-chip waste, has been proposed as a way of reducing CO₂ emissions, even though such fuels would produce a large amount of CO₂ per unit of heat produced. Explain the rationale behind this idea.

biomass fuels produce a large amount of CO₂  used to create electricity or other forms of power generated from renewable organic waste and releases no new carbons back into the atmosphere.  Instead, it releases what would be released naturally as the organic matter decomposed. the carbon that is released when biomass is burned is re-absorbed by other plants in their growing cycle. When fossil fuels are burned, they release carbon that has been trapped for centuries, adding carbon into the atmosphere that had been unavailable underground.
