Why do biologists like to have a large number of progeny to analyze when doing genetic crosses

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In genetics, a genetic cross or test cross introduced by Gregor Mendel, involves the breeding of an individual with a phenotypically recessive individual in order to determine the zygosity. The zygosity can be heterozygous or it can be homozygous. Genetic crossing is used to test the genotype of an individual by crossing it with another individual with the known genotype. Thus biologists like to have a large number of progeny mostly to compare them with the offspring phenotypes that are formed as a result of genetic crosing .
