How are traits inherited?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans- When organism's reproduce, traits are passed from parent to offspring. DNA is the genetic material that carried this traits. DNA ( genetic material) found in a cell nucleus. Hence, inherited traits are those traits that are passed down from parents to their offspring.

Traits are inherited by two ways - Dominant and recessive.

Dominant traits - A strong trait passed along by a parent to an offspring. ( For example if both parents have brown eyes, then the child is likely to have brown eyes).

Recessive traits - If both parents of a child carry the dominant and recessive genes, then there is a 25% chance that the child will develop the recessive trait.

Many traits can be inherited from your parents; the ability to taste a chemical called PTC is no exception. When you try it, you may have an extreme bitter taste in your mouth, mildly bitter, or you may taste nothing at all. Your genotype is what determines this outcome. The ability to taste PTC is dominant (T) to the alleles for nontasting which are recessive (t). If a student walks into class and is told to try PTC and then...
