The functions of macromolecules is given below:-
- Carbohydrates- It is an essential part of our
diet as it provides quick term energy to the body, and is also a
source of dietary fiber. The energy is stored in the form of
glycogen, which is broken down into glucose when necessary.
- Proteins-These are one of the most abundant
organic molecules in living systems and have the most diverse range
of functions amongst all the macromolecules. Proteins provide cell
structure, send chemical signals, speed up chemical reactions,
serve in transport, storage, or membranes, or they may be toxins or
enzymes.
- Fats- Fats provide cells with long-term energy
and help to make up the biological membranes. Cells store energy
for long-term use in the form of fats. Lipids also provide
insulation from the environment for plants and animals.
