Yes, these many separate island habitats had positive role in evolution of species diversity.

If there were many separate habitats, each island had specific environmental conditions. These islands were separated either by river or by mountain. So they had some effect on climate of each island. Now as each island had different climatic conditions each species choose their favourable habitat. So species adapt efficiently to their habitat. So species were occupied different habitat according to their niche selection and there they flourished. Each island can provided suitable habitat for several species. For this reason diversity of the island evolved gradually. So many separate island habitats had positive role in the evolution of species diversity.
