Do you think genetic drift would happen more quickly on an island or on the midland? Explain

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Yes it is true that genetic drift would happen more quickly on an island or on the midland because genetic drift is inversely proportional to the size of the land i.e. if the size of the land is less then the chance of genetic drift will be more. Genetic drift is a mechanism of evolution in which allele frequencies of a population change over generations. Genetic drift occurs in all populations of non-infinite size, but its effects are strongest in small populations. So, above statement is correct .

The Krebs cycle is a circle. What do you think would happen if you removed one of the compounds from that circle to make an amino acid (this does happen, Alpha-ketogluterate is the basic building block for many amino acids)? The cell has a variety of other pathways that can make oxaloacetate (the final 4 carbon product in the krebs cycle) from other molecules in the cell. Why might these alternative pathways be important?
