__________ are membrane-bound metabolic compartments that specialize in the production of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and its conversion to water.

Answer #1

Answer to Question : Peroxisomes

Explanation :

Peroxisomes are specialized compartments bounded by a single membrane. It's involved in oxidation reactions leading to the generation of hydrogen peroxide. Since hydrogen peroxide is harmful to the cell, it's converted into water or other substances by the action of enzymes called as Catalase present in peroxisomes.

Basically this cell organelles contains enzymes which transfers hydrogen atoms from substrates to oxygen thereby producing hydrogen peroxide which is further converted into water as I've mentioned earlier. Peroxisomes therefore is responsible for the conversation of reactive oxygen species as that of hydrogen peroxide into safer molecules like water and oxygen.

It's also involved in lipid metabolism.
