why too much potassium (method of lethal injection) in your extracellular fluid would be fatal?
Too much potassium leads to Hyperkalemia. Normal range of potassium in blood is 3.5 to 5 mmol/L and if the value is above this range then it indicates Hyperkalemia. Hyperkalemia causes prolongation of membrane depolarization. Hyperkalemia causes palpitations, numbness, muscle pain, muscle weakness, abnormal heart rhythm. It can also lead to cardiac arrythmia and cardiac arrest and the person might die. Hence, too much potassium in extracellular fluid can be fatal.
