There is difference in jump height between counter movement jump and static vertical jump . counter movement jump results in higher vertical jump values compared to static vertical jump .The underlying neuro physiological mechanism behind this is stretch-shortening cycle.

Stretch-shortening cycle is an active stretch of a muscle followed by an immediate concentric contraction of same muscle . Stretch-shortening cycle happens during counter movement jump is called eccentric utilization ratio .This stretch shortening cycle increase the myogenic active state and force production .Utilization of elastic energy and increased efficiency of neuro muscular system along with reflex contribution .
