With someone having Hashimoto Thyriodititis I would expect that labs to show? EXPLAIN what are the tests and the symbols mean in easy terms so i can understand what this is.
Hashimoto Thyroiditis is a type of autoimmune disease of the Thyroid gland. Most of the patients have a typical course of hyperthyroidism followed by hypothyroidism. This is because the autoantibodies against Thyroid peroxidase, thyroglobulin aand TSH receptor while some patients may not have these antibodies at all. These bodies initially cause either asymptomatic enlargement of gland or hyperthyroidism due to increased secretion of thyroid hormone but eventually result in hypothyroidism due to glandular dysfunction.
The lab test of such patients show the presence of above mentioned antibodies and the levels of T3, T4 and TSH depends on the stage of the disease ( initially, T3, T4 are high TSH is low while later on T3, T4 are low and TSH is high)
