How does exercise affect the following when compared to the resting state – justify your answers and please answer all 3 parts of this question:
a. Hemoglobin saturation at the lung? At the tissues?
b. Mean arterial pressure
c. Skin blood flow (provide your parameters)
Part a
The body maintains a stable level of oxygen saturation for the most part by chemical processes of aerobic metabolism associated with breathing. Using the respiratory system, red blood cells, specifically the hemoglobin, gather oxygen in the lungs and distribute it to the rest of the body.
The hemoglobin saturation at exercise will increase at lungs and at tissue level it will increase .
This is because when the increase in ventilation occur in exercise it will lead to an increase in the saturation of hemoglobin at lungs
And this will cause a reduction in saturation of hemoglobin at tissue level as a result of increased need for O2 in muscle
Mean arterial pressure will increase to maintain blood supply to all parts of body
Skin blood flow will increase and also vasodilation will occur to maintain temperature and heat in body
