Answer #1

The four common examples of food drug interactions are as follows:

1. Milk with tetracycline: Milk contain calcium which forms complex with tetracycline and thus absorption of tetracycline decreases and ultimately the bioavailability decreases.

2. Aspirin and Vitamin K: The leafy vegetables contain high amount of vitamin K which interact with aspirin and reduces the anti-platelet effect of aspirin. Aspirin is used as anticoagulant and vitamin K promotes coagulation.

3. Alcohol and antihistamines: Antihistamines are used as antiallergic medication. Drowsiness is the side effects of these drugs and thus if given with alcohol the more drowsiness is produced as alcohol also causes drowsiness by CNS suppression.

4. Grape juice and statins: Grape juice enhances the absorption of hypolipidemic drug statins resulting into increased bioavailability and thus increased sideffects.
