Describe the muscle contraction cycle and the importance of ATP in this process.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Muscle Contraction Cycle

1. In all contraction cycle, the active moves to the myosin. The muscle contraction cycle is composed by the calcium ions and also bindind to the protein complex troponin and also expose the active binding site on the actin.

2. Whenever the actin is pulled approximately 10 nm at the m- line the sacromere become shorten and contraction of muscle takes place.

Importance of ATP in Muscle Contraction

1. The role of ATP in muscle contraction is to pulling back the mysoin head and ready for the another cycle.

2. At the time of binding with the myosin head it causes the cross bridge between myosin and action to deact.

3. ATP helps to Provide the energy for pulling back the myosin by hydolysing the ADP.

The molecular process that makes muscle contraction possible is that ATP binds to myosin, which releases the energy needed to make the muscle contract. In this problem, we will examine the quantities of energy involved in this process. Part 1 The reaction of ATP hydrolysis catalyzed by myosin (M) occurs in several steps*: M + ATP → M·ATP M·ATP → M·ADP·Pi M·ADP·Pi → M·ADP + Pi (aq) M·ADP → M + ADP * T. Kodama & R.C.
