Answer-
The fetus is connected by the umbilical cord to the placenta. Through the blood vessels in the umbilical cord, the fetus receives all the nutrients, oxygen and all the life support from the mother and all the waste is carried away through the placenta.
The mother blood runs along side the placenta and the nutrients needed are absorbed and transferred to the fetus. A membrane separates baby blood and mother blood so the blood does not mix.
Placenta previa is the condition in which placenta is implanted near or over the outlet of the uterus. This can cause problem during delivery. This condition can cause bleeding which puts the mother and fetus at high risk. If bleeding does not stops this can lead to death of mother and fetus both or other complications.
