Placenta, is a tube like structure that is formed by about 8th week of pregnancy. This transfers the nutrition from the mother’s blood into the fetal blood. It is formed from the conceptus (foetal portion), which is directly attached with the endometrium (maternal portion). It provides nourishment and oxygen supply from maternal blood to the foetus and removes waste products and carbon dioxide.
Placenta previa is a pregnancy complication, during which the placenta is located unusually inferior position in the uterus. So, as the fetus grows, it usually lifts up and resolve by its own before 7th month of pregnancy. But in some cases, it can cause hemorrhagic bleeding in the mother, hypoxia in the fetus, and also birth injuries. This condition requires delivery by Cesarean section or C-section.
