TARGET CELLS OF FSH:

  • IN MALES- sertoli cells in the testis
  • IN FEMALES - Granulosa cells of ovary

TARGET CELLS OF LH:

  • IN MALES- Leydig cells of testis
  • IN FEMALES- Theca cells of ovary

FUNCTIONS OF FSH:

  • IN MALES- It increases the production of androgen-binding protein from sertoli cells necessary for sustaining sperm cells.It also stimulates testicular growth.
  • IN FEMALES- It stimulates the growth of ovarian follicles. It also increases estradiol production.

FUNCTION OF LH:

  • IN MALES- Stimulates leydig cells to produce testosterone.
  • IN FEMALES- Stimulates ovaries to produce steroids like estrogen and progesterone.It also aids in ovulation and progesterone release from corpus luteum after ovulation.
