What is the significance of pain reception and how can pain be its own disease?

Pain is an important sensory symptom. Pain sensation us protective in nature. The significance of pain reception are-

1. Pain sensation give warning signal about any threat. It creates awareness about any injury.

2. Prevents damage to body by causing a reflex withdrawal from source of pain.

3. Pain forces the person to rest or to minimize activities and therefore is useful in helping.

4. Pain urges the person to take treatment.

Pain can itself be a diseases. Pain sensations protect our body from damage. Thus any disorder which cause decrease in pain sensitivity will eventually affect our body and will cause damage.

Example is Analgesia. It means loss of pain sensation. It can lead to damage to body.

Hyperalgesia in increased sensitivity to pain sensation.

Paralgesia means abnormal sensations of pain.
