Causitive agent for Visceral leishmaniasis:

Leishmania come in three varieties--visceral, cutaneous and mucocutaneous.According to the species of the causative agent:

visceral Leishmania- L. donovani

cutaneous Leishmania- L. tropica

mucocutaneous Leishmania- L. braziliensis

Leishmaniasis is a disease caused by parasites of the Leishmania type.It is transmitted by the bite of certain types of sandflies. The disease can present in three main ways: cutaneous, mucocutaneous, or visceral leishmaniasis.

Symptoms of visceral leishmaniasis :

When people develop visceral leishmaniasis, the most typical symptoms are fever and the enlargement of the spleen, with enlargement of the liver sometimes being seen as well. The blackening of the skin that gave the disease its common name.
