Abnormal cell growth in skin leads to skin cancer. The mst common skin cancer types are

1. Basal cell carcinoma

2. Squamous cell carcinoma

3. Melanoma

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of cancer die to abnormal growth of basal cells. Squamous cell carcinoma is associated with abnormal squamous cell growth. Melanoma occurs due to defective growth of melanocytes.

Other skin cancer includes Kaposi’s sarcoma, dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, Merkel cell carcinoma, keratoacanthoma, spindle cell tumors, sebaceous carcinomas, microcystic adnexal carcinoma , atypical fibroxanthoma, leiomyosarcoma, and angiosarcoma.

Causes include:

1. Ionising radiation like xray

2. Exposure to chemicals and toxins

3. UV radiations

4. Medicines like immunosuppresants

5. Non healing wounds and ulcers

6. Recurrent infections like HPV
