Explain how methamphetamines affect the brain.
ANSWER: Methamphetamine is a man made CNS stimulant drug. It is highly addictive substance. It has varied effects on the CNS. The use of methamphetamine is associated with decrease in the number of neurons. The ability of neurons in the CNS is limited and in many cases, no regeneration happens. Neuronal death happens in many areas which includes the hippocampus, parietal cortex, prefrontal cortex, frontal cortex, basal ganglia, cerebellum, limbic system. This methamphetamine also affects other cells called the glial cells by destroying them. It also danages the glial progenitor cells in the CNS, which are the immature glial cells.
