Both have an amphiphatic organization.
Amphiphatic nature means it has both hydrophobic and
hydrophillic component. A phospolipid has phosphate group in one
end called the head and two side by side chain of fatty acids that
make up the tail, the phosphate group is negatively charged making
the head portion hydrop[hillic or water loving, the tail portion is
uncharged making it hydrophobic or water fearing. The sphingolipids
like the phospholipids are composed of polar head group (water
loving) and two non polar tail (water fearing). The core of the
sphingolipids is long chain amino alcohol called sphingosine.
