Abdominopelvic region is surrounded by parietal and visceral
peritoneum.
The peritoneum layer receives borh myelinated as well as
unmyelinated nerve fibres.
The myelinated nerve fibres are spread through the visceral and
parietal peritoneum. These nerve fibres innervate the peritoneum
directly from the CNS.
The unmyelinated fibres are the sympathetic and parasympathetic
innervations from the ANS. The vagus nerve innervates the
abdominopelvic region through unmyelinated nerve fibres.
The myelinated nerve fibres innervating the abdominopelvic region
contains sensory nerve endings which are sen sitivd to noxious and
somatic stimuli. The myelinated fibres in parietal and visceral
peritoneum are mechanoreceptors and carry information about
distension and contraction to brain.
