During running, are lower extremity muscles working eccentrically, concentrically, or both? Why? *Please answer both parts. Thank you!
During running, the eccentric muscles are quadriceps inorder to
have provide a grip strength after the flexion of the hip and when
striking the ground ( swing phase). The concentric muscles in the
leg during running are rectus femoris and illiopsoas muscles to
flex or bend the thigh at the hip to move forwards during
running.
The quadriceps muscle will go for both the concentric
and eccentric contraction. During when the runner descends or
trying to reduce the speed, the quadriceps muscle goes for
essentric contraction and since quadriceps is an anti gravity
muscle, inorder to extend the knee during the running phase, the
muscle goes for concentric contraction.
