If inulin is filtered, but neither reabsorbed nor secreted, what physiological variable that pertains to renal function is approximately equal to the clearance of inulin?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Inulin is a polysaccharide and it is excreated only through kidney ( by glomerular filtration). It neither reabsorbed nor secreated by renal tubules. Since inulin is completely removed only by glomerular filtration, its clearance (inulin clearance) is considered as glod standard for measuring Glomerular filtration rate (GFR), one of the kidney function test.

So answer is Inulin clearance is approximately equals to GFR of the kidney.

GFR- Glomerular filtration rate- used to determine kidney's function.
