For Molanann and Luther, the cross needs to be central to Christianity. However Moltrnann, contradistinction to Luther, rejects atonement language and believed death of Jesus' primarily was due to his abandonment by God.Also the second person of the Trinity, Jesus, got abandoned as God. The traditional "two-natures" Christ doctrine was rejected by Molanann with an argument that it was merely an attempt for preserving the God's incorruptibility in keeping the nature of divine from humiliation.
Luther believed in traditional Christianity i.e. God is being, which means God to be the creator with all the perfections. But Moltmann God seemed more as an event and considered God to be perfect only in an eschatological approach. Moltmann does not believed much in faith and stresses works; however Luther believed in the faith and evil of works improperly understood.
