How does an understanding of sound depend on an understanding of atoms and molecules? Or does it? How does an understanding of sound depend on an understanding of forces and motion?
Sound takes place when bodies strikes the air. i.e. Sound waves are the vibrations that travel through the air or water or solid wall. For understanding the sound, It is very essential to understand atoms and molecules well. Since everything is made up of atoms so these are the only thing that are responsible for producing sound. Atoms and molecules vibrates around there position which causes the compression and rarefaction in medium like air or water and thus generates longitudinal waves which when hits our ears causes the sensation of sound.
Understanding sound with perspective of force and motion:
Whenever force acts on any body like consider the case of drum so when we beat a drum i.e. Providing force to it then the atoms and molecules that make up the drum comes in state of motion and vibrates and reaches to there first, second etc. Harmonic states and thus in turn produces sound.
