Answer #1

example :

surgical operations : 450

death in surgeries : 10

anesthesia administered in surgeries : 420

death due to anesthesia administered in surgeries : 3

death after surgical operations (postop deaths) : 2

babies born : 150

newborn deaths : 3

1.

gross death rate : deaths / total no. of operations {excluding newborns}

gross death rate = (10+3+2)/450 = 15/450 = 0.0333

2.

Net death rate = deaths / total no. of discharges {including newborns}

= (10+3+2+3)/(450+150) = 0.03

3.

Newborn death rate = newborn death / total no .of newborns = 3/150 = 0.02

4.

Surgical postop death rate = Surgical postop deaths / Surgical operations

= 2/450 = 0.0044

5.

Surgical anesthesia death rate = Surgical anesthesia death / Surgical anesthesia administered

= 3/420

= 0.0071
