What is the difference between correlation and causation? Explain. ((typing))

Answer #1

correlation tells about association between two variables. correlation is measure of strength and direction of association between two continuous variable. it can be reason only linear relationship. if two variable has positive correlation then if one variable increases then other variable will also increases.

but it doesn't means that second variable increases due to first variable. it is not cause effect relationship.

causation shows that due to one effect of variable other variable changes. but in case of correlation there is no causation between variables.

1. Correlation: Correlation Does Not Mean Causation One of the major misconceptions about correlation is that a relationship between two variables means causation; that is, one variable causes changes in the other variable. There is a particular tendency to make this causal error, when the two variables seem to be related to each other. What is one instance where you have seen correlation misinterpreted as causation? Please describe.
