A survey asked 518 users of a website about changes in the amount of time spent using the website over the past year. Here is the two-way table classifying the website users by gender and whether or not they increased the amount of time that they spent on the website during the past year.

We use the term rc table to describe a two-way table of counts with r rows and c columns. The two categorical variables in the 2 ✕ 2 table of this problem are "Increased" and "Gender." "Increased" is the row variable, with values "Yes" and "No," and "Gender" is the column variable, with values "Men" and "Women." Since the objective in this example is to compare the genders, we view "Gender" as an explanatory variable, and therefore, we make it the column variable. Find the chi-square test statistic.
