AVALANCHE The average avalanche will leave a depth of snow of 180.009 inches, according to meteorologists ( with a stdev = 10.6 inches). Joanna believes that average depth is LOWER than stated and goes about testing several occurrences.   She tests 49 avalanche occurrences and obtains a sample mean of 178 .29 inches. Test her claim at a 95% level. .   PROVIDE A DETAILED TEST by answering the questions below.----- DO NOT USE THE P-VALUE METHOD—USE THE TRADITIONAL METHOD

Answer #1

a)

H0: = 180.009

Ha: < 180.009

b)

Critical value at 0.05 level = -1.645

c)

Test statistics

z = - / / sqrt(n)

= 178.29 - 180.009 / 10.6 / sqrt(49)

= -1.135

d)

Since test statistics falls in non-rejection region, (That is z > -1.645) , we do not have sufficient

evidence to reject H0 .

e)

We conclude at 0.05 level that we fail to support the claim.
