The women are asked whether or not they have ever been exposed to radiation to their chests and then divided into those who have been exposed (250) and those who have not been exposed (550). The women are followed over the next 10 years at which time they are contacted to determine whether or not they have developed breast cancer. A total of 150 women developed breast cancer, 120 of the women who were exposed to chest radiation and 30 of the women who were not exposed to chest radiation.
